After another successful close to the school year, Denver Public Schools AmeriCorps members are once again supporting the academic camps of Summer Scholars. Working in 6 elementary schools spread out through Denver, members split their days by helping out in classrooms assisting teachers who provide math and reading cirriculum to students and then help organize or lead fun activities in the afternoon. Alvaro, pictured above in the green AmeriCorps shirt, has been teaching hip-hop dance classes to students. Each day he steps into the room, students rush towards him and frantically try to get his attention to show him how much they’ve practiced the moon walk or the cat daddy.
Members will be supporting Summer Scholars programming through the end of July, where most of the members will have finished their hours and will be leaving the program.
