Congratulations to our 2011 – 2012 Urban Education Corps AmeriCorps Members!!! Most members have now finished their 1700 hours of service with our Denver Public Schools AmeriCorps program and will be exiting the program shortly. To celebrate this great achievement, Denver Public Schools kindly helped the team celebrate by providing a day at the Cherry Creek Reservoir for some outside fun. Along with some lunch and fun in the water, members received awards presented by their site supervisors for all of their efforts over this past school year.
This year, our members did an incredible job of providing support to students and families in Denver Public Schools, particularly with our program’s new direction of daily attendance support, where members have a case load of students and monitor their attendance daily, checking in with each student and ensuring their families know if they student made it to school or not. Some amazing service projects were created this year, including organized recess for students at Smith Elementary, a successful after-school hip-hop club at North High School, a parent-student recycled art class at Vista Academy, an 8th grade tutoring program where 30 students were tutored at Grant Beacon Middle School, and an after-school grant-funded Girls on the Run program at Henry World Middle School. These are just a few of the fantastic projects that were created that benefited the students and families that we worked with.
THANK YOU to our 2011-2012 AmeriCorps members and for all of the work you have done!
