Colorado Reads Literacy Matters Book Drive

The Denver Public Schools AmeriCorps program is collaborating with Serve Colorado, as well as several other Colorado AmeriCorps programs in the Colorado Reads Literacy Matters Book Drive.  Over the past few weeks, our AmeriCorps member Kirby Peterson has been working to secure book donation locations for people to drop off books.  He has secured 7 donation locations throughout Denver to allow people easy access to donate gently used books.  We are looking for children’s books (age range of birth-10 years) and they can be dropped off between now and January 18th, 2013 at the donation locations listed below:

Mitchell Elementary School

AmeriCorps members will then gather the afternoon of Martin Luther King Day (January 21st) to sort the books for Denver Public Schools, Community Building Partnerships for Youth in Transition, and the United Way of Denver and Larimer Counties to distribute the books in their programs. The team looks forward to the day of service filled with Marade festivities that the whole team will be participating in, the afternoon potluck, civic reflection time, and the book sorting! Be sure to take part in the book drive we need your help to reach our goal of 10,000 books!!
