Smiley Middle School Snow Ball

snowballncccLast month, Smiley’s AmeriCorps Team hosted the first ever Snow Ball Dance!  The goal of the dance was to provide our students with a relaxing, fun night that also included attendance incentives. To gain admission to the dance, students had to achieve 85% or higher attendance for the first 2 weeks of December.  Students with 100% attendance for that period won free popcorn!  And, the grade with the highest attendance in November won free admission!  The 7th graders took this win!

The dance turned out to be a great success!  Over 50 Smiley students attended to enjoy the music, which was DJ’ed by our own AmeriCorps member, Daniel.  Some great dancers showed off their skills during Cupid Shuffle and Gangnam Style dances.  The chaperones (which included our wonderful AmeriCorps members) showed off their moves too!  Oh, and let’s not forget the great AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) members who came to help out.  Four members from a team working at West High School joined us in serving popcorn, monitoring hallways, and, of course, dancing.

It was a great night for everyone.  And we’d like to thank everyone who helped us make the night successful!  We couldn’t hold these dances without a great support team.  Stay tuned for the next Smiley Dance!
