The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

Fairview3A new partner for Fairview Elementary, MetLife, had their first event at the school this past Monday, October 27th. MetLife is an organization that partners with schools around the country to promote healthy mind and healthy body events. 30 students from the second and third grade were selected to attend this exciting event and meet a very special guest brought in by MetLife. Each student was selected by their teachers based on good behavior in the classroom and excellent/improved attendance. For this event, MetLife coordinated with a special guest, former basketball player and Denver native, Chauncey Billups. Chauncey Billups promoted literacy and talked about positive dental hygiene practices with the students. A discussion followed about what good dental hygiene looks like and how to have a healthy and safe Halloween.

In the spirit of Halloween Chauncey Billups selected one of his favorite books, The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, to prompt student excitement for Halloween this coming Friday. In order to have a successful book reading, Mr. Billups invited Snoopy to join him and help make the story come alive. All of the students were surprised by this extra special guest and loved hearing the story alongside Snoopy. In culmination of this event each student was given the opportunity to trick or treat alongside our MetLife volunteers. They were given healthy snacks and dental goodies to help them continue to practice good dental hygiene. They also had the chance to take a commemorative photo alongside Mr. Billups and his special friend Snoopy. Students received a Snoopy plush & signed picture frame to remember the day. Fairview Elementary was very grateful to MetLife for partnering with them to help put on such a fun event for our students. The event was a huge success and helped students prepare for a happy and healthy Halloween.Fairview2
